Breathe
with me…
I’d love for you to join me for this little breathing practice. An opportunity to pause and reset.
What is Yoga Nidra?
-Yoga nidra literally means yogic sleep, which is a state that lies between being awake and being asleep.
-It is a guided practice that works by gradually drawing your attention inwards…away from the noise of the mind and external distractions…which calms the nervous system and draws you into a state of deep physical, mental and emotional relaxation.
-During the practice, you are encouraged to stay relaxed and attentive, whilst following the sound of my voice…
-At times you might feel very relaxed…you might drift in and out and sometimes you might even fall asleep…Whatever happens is ok, there isn’t a wrong way to do this practice.
·At one stage, you’ll be invited to make a Sankalpa, which is like a positive intention. Choose a positive statement that is simple, short and clear…in the present tense, as if it’s already true. Could be a quality or feeling you’d like to cultivate more of.
-And equally, if you’d prefer not to make a Sankalpa, that’s ok too.
How it restores you
-Calms the nervous system
-Deep relaxation
-Helps to reduce stress and anxiety
-Helps you to sleep better
-Helps to improve focus and concentration

It happens a lot! And is totally ok if it does. There isn’t a wrong way to do this practice. And if you fall asleep, perhaps you just needed the rest.
-
A common position in Yoga Nidra is Savasana (lying on the back) but it isn’t the only position you can take. If it is more comfortable, you can lie on the side, the front, or even be semi-reclined. Find the position that works for you. And if you need to adjust during the practice, that’s ok.
